Meridian Historical Village, Lansing

Meridian Historical Village, Lansing is a 19th Century heritage site, located at 5151 Marsh Rd, Meridien Township – Central Park, Okemos, MI 48805-0155. You can call at 517-347-7300. This village site takes us back to the time when settlers were trying to inhabit this area of Central Michigan. This is also a site for family-friendly programs, which occur throughout the year. Old Fashioned Christmas and Music in the Park are notable ones among them. The entry fee is $1 per person. The hours of operation of Meridian Historical Village, Lansing, are as follow:
  • July to October, 10am to 1pm
  • November to December, 2pm to 5pm
  • February, 2pm to 5pm
  • April to June, 2pm to 5pm.

Meridian Historical Village, Lansing, is situated at the beautiful Central Park, overlooking picturesque Lake Catherine. The site has several historic buildings which are restored in their original 19th century style. Friends of Historic Meridian, a non profit organization, is in charge of the operation of this village. This organization was established in the year 1974, to maintain the appreciation of local history. This organization maintain the age old buildings, sponsor the community events in this site and also organize free public lectures six times in a year. Moreover, this association maintain an archive of historical pictures and documents of Michigan and Okemos State university, East Lansing and Haslett. People can request copies of these documents from the office.



Noteworthy features of Meridian Historical Village, Lansing, are as follow:
  • Unruh Barn. The interiors of this houses display blacksmith and the antique farming tools of past. A grist mill and corn sheller are used inside this to teach children about past farming technique.
  • Randall One Room Schoolhouse. This standalone building in the village is not relocated from other part. The rest one room schools of past in this area are private residences.
  • Grettenberger Farmhouse. This is the first building which was moved to this village.
  • Proctor Tollgate House. This is the only remaining building of tollgate house of Michigan.
