The history of Lansing, Michigan is curious and interesting. During 1835 and 1836 two brothers plotted an area south to what is now downtown Lansing as Biddle City. The brothers sold the lands in the non-existing city to the people of Lansing in New York. When the people who have purchased land arrived in the area, they were disappointed by the scam.

Some of them stayed back and settled there and named the area Lansing after their home town in New York. Then it was required to move the capital to a safe and interior place than Detroit. Lansing was chosen as the new capital of Michigan officially in 1847.



The total area of Lansing in Michigan is 91.3 square kilometer. Lansing is located at the meeting point of Red Cedar River and Grand River in the Lower Peninsula. The Grand River cuts its way through downtown Lansing. The Red Cedar River flows through Michigan State University campus.
